News at URY

For the past two years running the News Team at URY have won awards for Best Journalistic Programme at the National Student Radio Awards and are always continuously striving to maintain the high standard that these awards demand.

As well as a 15 minute bulletin every weekday of national and regional news, called York Report, we have an hour of specifically student related news on Wednesdays at 5pm with York 60.

From the student protests in London, to the new study space on campus being named "The Brian Blessed Centre For Quiet Study", York 60 covers the news that matter to students.

University in living wage row

The University claims to pay all its staff the 'living wage' of £7.20 per hour - a think tank has calculated that's how much workers need to maintain a decent standard of living. But a student campaign says that's not the full story - and URY News can reveal that in just one year, more than 600 people worked for the university at a rate below the living wage. Rachael Venables reports.

From the URY Newshour - every Wednesday from 6.00.

York to join elite Russell Group

York is set to become a member of the Russell Group of leading universities. It will join the elite club, which includes Oxford, Cambridge and the LSE, after the group decided to expand its membership from 20 to 24. It's mainly a ceremonial position, but membership should be good for York's reputation and international standing. Vice-Chancellor Brian Cantor says it's an "honour and a privilege".
