Highlights 2010/11

Why not listen to our highlights package!? You can hear a summary of our Entertainment, News, Music, Speech and Events output. This could be you next year!

For more podcasts, visit the ((URY PLAYER)).

Programme Control

The Programme Controller and the Programming Team are responsible for scheduling the hundreds of shows that take broadcast every year. Having a team of controllers ensures timeslots are handed out fairly.

The Programming Team also deal with complaints from listeners or Ofcom, the regulatory body for our airspace.

Any enquiries should be directed towards pc@ury.org.uk.

Computing

The computer technicians respond to faults and help create new software around the station. They manage the internal network and interface with the university systems, along with administrating the website and email servers.

Getting involved with this team offers you a world of experience that a computer science degree alone could never hope to equal, and looks great on your CV!

Any enquiries should be directed towards head.of.computing@ury.org.uk.

Engineering

Technicians are roped in first and foremost to keep the equipment running in the studios, including broadcast desks, and the transmitter located at the north end of the James-Vanbrugh bridge. We also need technicians to assist people with outside broadcasts, and help establish a successful link back to the station!

The team are heavily involved, and joining this team will give you the experience to parallel any electronics or computer course.

Any enquiries should be directed towards chief.engineer@ury.org.uk.

Business

With such a large station to run, the business team ensures there is always a fresh supply of money. Whilst responsible for sourcing sponsorship, they also hold the key to our marketing and public image.

The treasurer gets to balance several thousand pounds of expenditure and regulate the comings and goings of money in the society.

Any enquiries should be directed towards treasurer@ury.org.uk.

Production

Jingles, beds, adverts, trails and any other sound effects are the result of the production team's sweat and toil. Often your duties will include having good ideas for adverts or jingles, producing bespoke pieces of audio, and occasionally there will be live events that require podcasts being created quickly.

This is one of the most challenging, but equally most rewarding areas of the station to participate in.

Any enquiries should be directed towards head.of.production@ury.org.uk.

What can I do at URY?

Presenting

The majority of members start out as presenters, who fill our busy schedule. As a presenter, you will receive an hour training session and full access to our music database. Shows are restricted to one hour, due to demand, but you are free to do what you want and play what you want after signing the presenters contract.

Our flagship shows are Breakfast, Lunch and PM and these have longer slots. They are presented by people who have at least a year on student radio and have demonstrated enthusiasm in their broadcast. During events such as Roses or Woodstock they will be asked to promote station competitions or play specific audio.

Any enquiries should be directed towards ury@ury.org.uk.

News

URY has one of the country's oldest student newsrooms, as well as several national radio awards and some of the station's flagship programmes.

Getting involved with URY News can give you some great work experience as well as broadcast journalism skills and knowledge.

There are loads of ways to be part of our newsroom, reporting and news reading or studio managing and editing.

Any enquiries should be directed towards head.of.news@ury.org.uk.

Music

Joining the music team will enable you to present specialist music shows, review and podcast about new music and up-and-coming artists, set up gigs, interview bands, perform live sessions, or sit in a dark room digitising thousands of CDs - whatever is most to your taste!

With an enormous collection of CDs and vinyls to care for, being part of the music team can be very rewarding.

Any enquiries should be directed towards head.of.music@ury.org.uk.

Speech

The Speech team produce a wide range of programmes from radio dramas by budding student writers to original comedy shows and documentaries.

On top of that the weekly magazine features celebrity interviews and local theatre reviews.

Explore the incredible medium of radio in a brand new way!

Any enquiries should be directed towards head.of.speech@ury.org.uk.
